NEWMARKET ARE CROWNED 2026 E. TARRANT & SONS JUNIOR A HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP CHAMPIONS


Newmarket are the 2026 E. Tarrant & Sons Juniot A Hurling Championship Champions after a hard fought and close encounter with Dromtariffe in a final played in splendid conditions in Banteer on Saturday evening .
Newmarket had a storming start to the game- galloping into a 1-3 to no score lead after 8 minutes , the goal courtesy of Hugh O Connor after a Donal Hannon free hit the upright,Dromtariffe’s cause was not helped by an injury to Conor O Callaghan but they recovered magnificently as they registered 1-2 without reply , the goal courtesy of Mark O Connor. Newmarket with the aid of a slight wind continued to hurl with determination but Dromtariffe had an equal appetite for hard work as the 1st half concluded with Newmarket leading by 4 points1-11 to 1-07
The 2nd half saw Newmarket again make an impressive start and they were 8 points clear after 10 minutes of non stop action. Dromtariffe reduced the gap to 6 and were then give a real boost when goalkeeper Gavin O Keeffe made a magnificent save from a well struck Donal Hannon Penalty. Dromtariffe now had a real spring in their step as they narrowed the gap to 4 points on 24 minutes and another Mark O Connor goal left the minimum between the sides with only 4 minutes of normal time remaining . Newmarket responded with 2 well taken points but Dromtariffe narrowed the gap to 2 as added time approached. Newmarket attacked non stop in extra time and were rewarded with the insurance scores to register a 1-23 to 2-16 victory.
