What is Scór?
Scór was founded in 1969 by Cork’s Derry Gowen, with the vision of promoting and preserving the rich traditions of Irish culture under the banner of Cumann Lúthchleas Gael. Through music, song, dance and other cultural activities, Scór provides GAA members and local communities with a valuable social outlet and an opportunity to participate in a wide range of stage-based competitions.
Over the years, Scór at both adult and juvenile levels has played an important role in celebrating and sustaining Irish culture and heritage. It has provided opportunities for children, young people and adults in communities throughout Ireland to come together and participate in the very best of traditional Irish arts and culture.
Competitions begin at local club and parish level and progress through divisional and county stages, before advancing to provincial and All-Ireland finals. Similar to the excitement of championship action on the playing field, the season reaches its peak at the All-Ireland Finals. In recent years, venues such as Athlone, Belfast, Castlebar, Killarney, Limerick and Millstreet have hosted these prestigious events.
Scór competitions are divided into the following categories:
Scór na bPáistí
Open to all children attending primary school.
Scór na nÓg
Open to competitors who are under 17 years of age on 1 January.
Scór Sinsear
Open to competitors who are over 17 years of age on 1 January.
Where more than one competitor or team wishes to represent a club area, the club concerned should select its representative(s) for the relevant competition. Clubs are encouraged to hold their own local competitions to determine representatives for divisional rounds and are required to participate in at least two competition categories.
