The Ashgrove Renewables Junior A Football Championship Semi-Finals take place this weekend with 2 lively encounters in store.

On Saturday , Sept 26th Ballydesmond play Lyre at 4.30 pm in Knocknagree , while on Sunday , Sept 27th Castlemagner play Lismire at 7pm in Kiskeam.

Ballydesmond come into the semi-final unbeaten having seen off Lismire, Kilbrin and Kanturk in the Group stages while Lyre recovered from a narrow defeat to Castlemagnner to record an impressive victory over Knocknagree and will go into the game with high hopes of causing an upset . Referee is Jerry Kelleher.

Castlemagner are also unbeaten in the championship having recorded impressive victories over Knocknagree and Lyre, Lismire had an opening  championship disappointment at the hands of Ballydesmond but have recovered very well with victories over Kanturk and Kilbrin and will be hoping for a good performance on Sunday evening . Referee is Shaun O Rourke.

NEWMARKET & DROMTARIFFE QUALIFY FOR E. TARRANT & SONS JUNIOR A HC FINAL

Newmarket and Dromtariffe qualified for the 2026 E. Tarrant and Sons Junior A Hurling Championship Final with hard earned  Semi- Final victories over Meelin and Freemount respectively.

The 1st Semi saw near neighbours and rivals Newmarket and Meelin go head to head on Saturday , Sept 19th in Kilbrin. Newmarket had an early lead- and never relinquished same despite strong pressure from Meelin. Meelin reduced the deficit to 3 points approaching half time but 2 late Newmarket scores saw Newmarket with a 1-9 to 0-7 lead at the interval, Newmarket continued in the ascendency in the 2nd half and while Meelin continued to hurl with great determination- Newmarket ran out worthy winners on a 1-22 to 1-14 scoreline.

Dromtariffe had to overcome a strong Freemount challenge on Sunday evening in Banteer , Freemount made the early running before Dromtariffe settled to achieve a half time lead of 2-12 to 1-11. Dromtariiffe pushed on in the 2nd half using their experience to finally overcome a game Freemount on a final scoreline of 3-26 to 2-16.

The Final will be played at 4.30pm on Saturday, Oct 3rd in Banteer.

The E.Tarrant & Sons Junior B Hurling Championship continues on Saturday , Sept 19th at 3pm in Kanturk with the semi-final meeting of Castlemagner v Millstreet.

Castlemagner come into the game on the back of 2 impressive victories over Kanturk and Newmarket and will fancy their chances  , however Millstreet are sure to put in a strong display as they bid to reach the championship final. Referee : David Cronin

The E. Tarrant & Sons Junior A Hurling Championship reaches it’s penultimate stage this weekend with the semi-final pairings of Meelin v Newmarket and Freemount v Dromtariffe.

The action kicks off on Saturday evening , Sept 19th in Kilbrin at 5.30 pm with the eagerly awaited clash between near neighbours Newmarket and Meelin.

This age old rivalry will once again be renewed in what promises to be a tight , tense affair. Meelin had a disappointing start to their campaign losing to Kilbrin – but recovered to register impressive victories over Dromtariffe and Banteer. Newmarket have looked impressive in Championship 2026 with victories over Freemount and Millstreet, however a serious test awaits on Saturday with everything on the line. Referee : Wayne King

The 2nd semi-final sees Dromtariffe take on Freemount on Sunday, Sept 20th at 5.45 pm in Banteer.

Dromtariffe who had an opening day victory over Banteer recovered from their round 2 defeat to Meelin to register a most impressive victory over Kilbrin in round 3. They will be hoping to carry this level of performance into the semi on Sunday evening. Freemount recovered well from their opening day reversal to Newmarket to register a 1 point win over Millstreet and will be hoping for more of the same as they face Dromtariffe. BALLYDESMOND, LISMIRE, CASTLEMAGNER & LYRE QUALIFY FOR ASHGROVE RENEWABLES JUNIOR A FC SEMI-FINALS.

Round 3 of the Ashgrove Renewables Junior A Football Championship brought good news for Lismire and Lyre who joined already qualified Ballydesmond and Castlemagner in the Semi-Finals of the Junior A FC.

Lismire advanced following a 4-8 to 2-9 victory over Kilbrin to seal 2nd place in Group 1 . Lismire have recovered from an opening day defeat to Ballydesmond to register impressive wins over Kanturk and Kilbrin, they  will now look forward with great anticipation to a Semi-Final clash with Group 2 winners – Castlemagner.

Lyre had an impressive 0-21 to 0-8 victory over Knocknagree in the Group 2 decider . Both teams had performed admirably against Castlemagner and a close tussle was expected , however Lyre were comprehensive winners on the night and now look forward to a Semi-Final v Group 1 winners Ballydesmond.

In the final game in Group 1 Ballydesmond had a 2-11 to 1-6 victory over Kanturk in their Round 3 fixture, Ballydesmond , while always being in control were given a serious examination by a hard working Kanturk side. Bally emerge from the group unbeaten and will be hoping to perform to the same heights in the Semi-Final v Lyre.

KNOCKNAGREE AND LYRE IN BATTLE FOR S/F SPOT IN ASHROVE RENEWABLES JUNIOR A FC

Knocknagree and Lyre will battle it out for the 2nd qualifying spot from group 2 of the Ashgrove Renewables Junior A FC on Saturday, Sept 12th at 6.15pm in Cullen.

Both sides were beaten by group winners Castlemagner by narrow enough margains, Lyre having a scoring difference of -6 while Knocknagree are on -7. To add to the similarity both sides were neck and neck with Castlemagner – only to lose out to decisive  goals in the closing stages.

Knocknagree will be incredibly anxious to advance to the knockout stages once again,  while a rejuvenated Lyre will be hoping to make a breakthrough by qualifying for the semis,

Kilbrin and Lismire will go head to head on Sunday next , Sept 13th at 11.30 am in Castlemagner in Round 3 of the Ashgrove Renewables Junior A Football Championship.

Both teams are on 2 points with Kilbrin having a better scoring difference ( + 6 to – 11 ) , Therefore a draw will suffice for Kilbrin to advance to the semis while Lismire will need a victory.

Kilbrin had a narrow win over Kanturk in round 1 before sucumbing to a strong Ballydesmond in round 2.

Lismire suffered a disappointing defeat to Ballydesmond in Round 1 before reenergising their championship campaign with a storming victory over Kanturk.

All to play for on Sunday in what should be a game of high entertainment.

In the other Group 1 game , Ballydesmond take on Kanturk on Monday , Sept 14th at 7.30 in Kiskeam .

Ballydesmond will be hoping to continue with their outstanding form and remain unbeaten in the group stages, however Kanturk have been very close in both their games so far and will be looking to close out their campaign with a strong performance and a win .

Newmarket and Freemount advance from Group 2 of the E.Tarrant & Sons JAHC following on from Freemount’s win over Millstreet on Saturday evening.

This was a high scoring  , hard fought encounter with little to seperate the sides all through, Freemount eventually earned the plaudits with a narrow 1 point 2-20 to 3-16 victory.

Already qualified Newmarket top the group and will now play Meelin in what will be a highly anticipated Semi. Freemount will be buoyed from this victory over Millstreet and will now look forward to playing Dromtariffe in the other Semi-Final.

Dromtariffe and Meelin advance from Group 1 of the E. Tarrant & Sons JAHC following on from the Round 3 games played over the weekend.

Meelin secured their place in the Semi-Finals on Saturday evening in Tullylease with a comprehensive 4-21 to 0-10 victory over Banteer . This was a complete performance from Meelin who are building very nicely for the knock out stages of the Championship .

On Sunday evening in Newmarket – Dromtariffe proved too strong for a gallant Kilbrin side who came into the fixture as group leaders following on from victories over Meelin and Banteer, however on the day it was Dromtariffe who played all the hurling as they topped the group with a 3-25 to 1-13 win to leave the final group placings with 3 teams on 4 points and Dromtariffe topping the group on scoring difference followed by Meelin in 2nd place.

Dromtariffe now play the Group 2 runners up Freemount while Meelin will play Group 2 winners Newmarket in the Semi-Finals.

The E. Tarrant JBHC continues on Saturday, Sept 5th  when Kanturk play Castlemagner in Castlemagner at 6pm.

Both teams overcame Newmarket in their previous game and will now be hoping to advance to the concluding stages of the competition.

Castlemagner will be hopeful of a strong performance but Kanturk’s 2nd team showed up well in their opening game and will be no pushovers. A close contest is expected.
