The Ashgrove Renewables Junior A FC action continued with some cracking games in Round 2.

Lismire got their Championship campaign back on track with a superb 1-16 to 1-13 victory over Kanturk . Lismire scored  a goal and 2 points just before half -time and this gave them a strong buffer to resist a strong 2nd half comeback by Kanturk , Lismire leading 1-10 to 0-4 at half time defended stoutly and picked off important points as the 2nd half progressed. Kanturk were rewarded for their efforts with a late goal but were unable to close the gap to leave Lismire the ultimate winners, Lismire now play Kilbrin in Round 3 while Kanturk will be hoping for an upturn in fortunes v Ballydesmond.

 

Ballydesmond displayed their championship creditentials with a strong 0-19 to 0-10 victory over Kilbrin . A wind assisted Ballydesmond made the early running and had a commanding 10 point lead after 15 minutes play , Kilbrin gained a foothold in the 2nd quarter to leave the half time scoreline 0-13 to 0-5 in favour of Bally. Kilbrin upped their game in the 2nd half and Ballydesmond had to display their strong defensive qualities to prevent goal scoring opportunities, however as the half progressed Ballydesmond used all their experience to register an important victory. Kilbrin now face Lismire in a winner takes all Round 3 game while Ballydesmond will be hoping to continue their good form against Kanturk.

 

Castlemagner had a 3-13 to 1-13 victory over Lyre in Group 2 , Lyre had an early goal and were in strong contention for most of the 1st half, however 2 goals in the 2nd quarter saw Castle take a half time lead of 3-5 to 1-6. The 2nd half was an even affair with points exchanged as Lyre battled gamely to reduce the deficit, However Castlemagner protected their goal resoutely, and ensured an important victory which gurantees them a Semi-Final appearance. Lyre who were making their Championship debut will look forward to their next game v Knocknagree in another winner takes all fixture.
